We Said It: What We Wish They Knew About Our Choice

I’ll be asking a question on social media and in our newsletter about being child-free. I’ll then share community members’ thoughts in our We Said It blogs.

I asked the CFW2 community:

What is one thing you wish more people understood about being child-free?

Your answers do not disappoint.

That we shouldn’t automatically have to volunteer for every overtime shift, holiday shift, or extra project because we dont have kids. We still have lives, commitments, and people we love who are just as deserving of our time.

That we have thought about it, probably longer than you even thought about having kids lol. It’s not a spur of the moment decision. It’s based on years of collecting data about ourselves and what we want and value.

That it’s exactly the opposite of being selfish. We care for the planet, we care for the future generations (genetics suck if you have one like mine), we are loving people.

It’s not a new thing at all

That many of us do understand why other people would want to be parents, we just don’t want it - or want it enough - for ourselves.

That it doesn’t make you a bad person to not have kids! I wrote about this on my Substack cuz...yeah. We aren’t monsters!

Thank you all for sharing!

I’m a child-free woman in her 40s in London, Ontario, who realized that there needed to be a space for professional women without children to share their experiences. So I created CFW².
